4 Benefits Of Invisalign

Posted on: 9 September 2022

Many people have crooked teeth, but there are many ways to fix orthodontic issues. Invisalign is a popular choice, especially among older patients. If you would like to know more, check out these four benefits of Invisalign.

1. It's Effective

The number one benefit of Invisalign: it works. Invisalign can correct many issues, including crowding and gaps. In many cases, it works just as well as traditional braces and takes about the same amount of time. It may not be effective at correcting rotated teeth or misaligned bites, however, and these issues may require traditional braces to solve.

2. It Uses Clear Aligners

Many people shy away from braces because they are so noticeable. Every time you speak or smile, people see the metal brackets and wires. Invisalign, however, uses clear plastic aligners. The dentist creates a series of aligners that fit your teeth and slowly move them to the desired location.

For this reason, it's hard to tell if you are using Invisalign. If you neglect to clean the aligners, they may develop stains, which can make your teeth look discolored. After treatment, you'll need to wear the aligners at night to keep the teeth from moving.

3. It's Comfortable

These aligners are also smooth, making them more comfortable than traditional braces. They are less likely to cause damage to the soft tissue inside the mouth. However, like braces, they force teeth to move. For this time, each time you get a new set of aligners, you may have some discomfort.

4. It's Removable

Finally, Invisalign aligners are removable. With traditional braces, only the dentist can safely remove the braces, and they are only removed once treatment ends. Aligners need to be removed when you eat/drink (except water) and clean your teeth.

This is a pro and con. On one hand, it makes keeping your teeth clean easier, which reduces the risk of decay and stains. If you don't keep your teeth clean with traditional braces, bacteria can easily gather around the brackets and between teeth, increasing the risk of decay. Unfortunately, traditional braces make it hard to properly clean the teeth. On the other hand, however, if you keep removing the aligners, they become less effective.

Invisalign aligners are comfortable and removable, but they can't fix every orthodontic issue. They are affordable and insurance may cover some of the cost. If you think you may be a good candidate for Invisalign, or if you want to know more, contact a dentist in your area.
