Don't Let Your Clear Braces Become Stained

Posted on: 12 November 2019

If you don't want your braces to be visible, one option is to get clear braces. Many dentists offer this option, but they will only be invisible if you keep them clean. It's important to understand how to keep your braces looking beautiful.

Brush Your Teeth Like Always

Fortunately, brushing your teeth frequently will go a long way toward keeping your clear braces stain-free. It's especially important to brush your teeth when you have clear braces because the brackets are more likely to become stained. You should also use mouth wash once a day. If you are not able to brush your teeth, at least bring mouth wash with you because this will help keep your clear braces clean.

Have Your Teeth Professionally Cleaned

Cleaning your clear braces is not enough. You'll also need to have a professional clean your braces so that they look perfect. You should ideally have your braces cleaned by the same dentist who gave you your braces because he or she will understand how to clean them properly.

You'll also want to have your braces cleaned because you need to visit your orthodontist as often as possible. He or she will need to tighten your braces so they can do their job. Also, your orthodontist will determine if there is something wrong with your braces that needs to be repaired.

Don't Have Your Teeth Whitened

While getting your teeth whitened can be a good idea, you won't want to have them whitened while you are wearing clear braces. The whitening agents will not reach the surface that is underneath the bracket, so your teeth might be whitened unevenly. If you're not sure if you should use a particular product with clear braces, make sure to consult with your dentist.

Beware What You Drink

Avoid consuming beverages that are known for staining. This includes coffee, soda, and tea. Whenever possible, try to drink water because it is not only safe with clear braces, but the water can rinse off debris that might stain your clear braces.

Don't Use Drugs

Even worse than food is drug use. Tobacco, especially chewing tobacco, and alcohol can stain your brackets. Quit smoking altogether and limit your alcohol intake. Otherwise, your clear braces won't be clear for long.

If your brackets do become stained, you'll want to visit your orthodontist so that they can be replaced. Then, you won't have any visible stains while you are wearing your clear braces.
